The Complete Jobsite Inspection Checklist

A thorough jobsite inspection covers multiple safety categories. Use this checklist as a starting point and adapt it to your site and trade.

Fall Protection

  • Harnesses properly worn and anchored?
  • Guardrails in place at elevated work areas?
  • Holes and openings covered or barricaded?
  • Lifelines and lanyards free of damage?

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

  • Hard hats worn by all workers?
  • Safety glasses or face shields where required?
  • High-visibility vests in work zones?
  • Hearing protection where noise exceeds limits?
  • Gloves appropriate for the task?

Scaffolding

  • Scaffold planking complete and secure?
  • Guardrails and toe boards in place?
  • Base plates and mud sills properly set?
  • Access (ladder or stairs) safe and stable?

Electrical

  • Cords and temporary power properly secured?
  • GFCI protection where required?
  • No exposed live parts?
  • Clearance from overhead lines maintained?

Excavations

  • Shoring or sloping as required by soil type?
  • Spoil piles set back from edges?
  • Utilities located and marked?

Ladders

  • Ladders extend 3 feet above landing?
  • Proper angle (4:1) and secure at top/bottom?
  • No damaged rungs or rails?

Housekeeping

  • Work area free of debris and tripping hazards?
  • Materials stored safely?
  • Walkways clear?

Fire Safety

  • Fire extinguishers present and accessible?
  • Flammable materials stored properly?
  • Hot work permits where required?

Machine Guarding

  • Guards in place on saws, grinders, and other equipment?
  • Lockout/tagout procedures followed?
